To the girl with ‘beautiful’ on her arm He gave gold dust on the bathroom floor,
on her arms and on her hands,
but she didn’t dare ask to ask for more,
because she didn’t understand that every flower was planted for her; she could hardly bear the thought that He wanted to dance with her in them.
To the girl with the fearful heart,
He gave arms to encircle her, hands to help her bear the load,
a family to adopt her until she could face her own.
And as she learned to love again, her heart ached for the ones she left behind,
who had tried so hard to love her, though her pain had made her blind.
To the girl who found forgiveness for the ones who hurt her most,
He extended His hand, an offering she tried to resist.
Inside, she wrestled with the things that held her captive in the past,
not understanding that the same breath that breathed, “It is finished” came from a heart that sang, “At last”, not comprehending that every bird and every tree and every star and every poem came from a seed,
planted before the beginning by a Father who dreamed
of daughters and sons,
of boisterous voices from the mouths of lovesick ones,
from hearts pierced by arrows, souls that dared to sing.
He brought her forth from self pity and gave her a name,
sang, “Daughter, why do you wander? Do you still wonder why I came?
I came to preach good news, to set the captives free, to lift the burden of the broken, to lift the liar’s false decree. I came to give you hope, a future, a life lived without fear. I came to pull you closer, Daughter, please come here. Sit on my lap, and ask my your questions. It’s safe here, far from the world’s obsessions
with money and beauty and conquest and fame. You have need of one thing. I’ve married you. Take my name.”
To the girl with the veil He gave beauty and honor,
dignity for sorrows, joy for mourning,
He danced over her, His face shone upon her.
To the girl with the promise, He gave patience and rest, enough mercy and stamina to make it through every test.
To the girl with the doubts, He gave gold dust on the bathroom floor,
He gave kind words from strangers,
laughter on living room floors.
To the girl with the aching places,
He gave dreams with kind words, His eyes on hers.
To the girl who was cursed, He gave His own life,
became the curse for her so that she could become His wife.
To His children and bride He gave everything He had.
Everything He had.
This is incredibly beautiful.
